A high-power honeycomb-thermoform paddle can do the opposite. As the honeycomb cells in the center start to crush under thousands of impacts, they create a small void. The face can now flex and rebound into that void, so the paddle returns more energy. It gets hotter. To you, that feels like the paddle "waking up." Mechanically, it's the paddle breaking. It's also the reason a broken-in power paddle can drift over the restitution ceiling and get decertified.
Sit with that for a second, because it inverts the intuition everyone has. A paddle wearing out doesn't always mean it gets weaker.
